Discussion and Research Group

There is a long tradition of members of the Society researching and writing about the local area. Usually they have chosen to work individually. The formation of the Society's Discussion and Research Group in 2020 provided researchers with a collaborative and supportive structure within which they could seek advice when writing about the people, places and events in the Lancaster area. The Group's Newsletter is ideal for shorter, more infomal articles of 250 to 1000 words in length. Longer articles can appear in Contrebis, our annual journal.

We are a sub-group of the LAHS and our objectives have been to:

  • undertake research and publish short, informal articles on local and regional historical and archaeological issues;
  • encourage, advise and support Group members during their research and writing throughout the year;
  • issue links to local archives, libraries and museums;
  • meet informally to discuss items;
  • publish Newsletters edited by the Society's Publications Editor.
